ByteDance is gearing up TikTok to challenge YouTube by introducing 30-minute-long videos to the platform. This signifies a shift from the platform’s initial focus on short-form videos. TikTok has gained immense popularity for its brief video content. Initially, the platform allowed videos of only 15 seconds, but it later increased the time limit to one minute. In response to user demand, TikTok further extended the video duration to three minutes and eventually to 10 minutes.

Prior to the introduction of the 30-minute video limit, the company had experimented with 15-minute videos. However, it is important to note that the current video limit on TikTok does not exceed the 10-minute mark.
According to GizmoChina, TikTok is currently experimenting with a 20-minute time restriction in order to entice a larger user base and content creators. This move can be perceived as a direct challenge to YouTube, as the latter permits videos of any length. This expansion has the potential to create avenues for sharing complete episodes of television shows and other lengthy content on TikTok.
TikTok, known for its extensive collection of short videos, will now allow users to quickly advance through videos by simply tapping and holding the right side of the screen. This functionality is reminiscent of the feature introduced a few months ago when TikTok first introduced 15-minute videos.
Additionally, TikTok has made further enhancements to accommodate longer videos by introducing a horizontal full-screen mode.

Meanwhile, TikTok has undertaken a series of layoffs as a means to reduce costs. The organization has mandated a specific count of employees to depart, with a focus on individuals primarily employed within the sales and advertising department.
In addition to TikTok, ByteDance is extending its presence worldwide, establishing new offices in Canada, Australia, and the US. The company’s sales in 2023 amounted to approximately $110 billion, slightly exceeding those of Tencent Holding.
