Smart technology is literally shaping the future of the United Arab Emirates. With Dubai bringing flying taxis, smart gates, automated buses, and much more in the near future, the question arises- what’s next?
Well, if you thought your face being used as the method of payment through the upcoming face recognition payment system was enough, the UAE has a lot more technological advancements and innovations in store for you.
Well, if forgetting your passport at home is one of your strong suits, do not worry as Dubai will soon allow passengers to travel without passports or visas.
Dubai residents can soon experience traveling through the airport without passports, visas, or any travel documents in the near future.
Khaleej Times cited Dubai’s residents will no longer need to show their travel documents while traveling according to integrated solutions provider Emaratech, who is at the Gitex technology exhibition which kicked off in the Emirates on Monday.
The company is reportedly working with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs-Dubai (GDRFA) to make this project to reality.
At the check-in counter, passengers will undergo a streamlined process that will capture their photos and scan their facial features. After the generation of a comprehensive travel itinerary and other information, they will be directed to check in their luggage.
After passing through the immigration counter, passengers will head to duty-free where their identity will be verified using facial recognition and biometrics. The same process is also applicable at the boarding gate.
Travelers also don’t need to show any travel documents at the smart gate. So, as long as their security check is clear with no fines or issues on visas, traveling will become very convenient.
Dubai Airports has also been working on the project, utilizing biometric technology. The system is reportedly undergoing trials at the Dubai International Airport.
Meanwhile, last year, Abu Dhabi International Airport used a similar biometric check-in system where passengers could get a boarding pass and use other services by using their face scan.
So, Dubai’s future in technology seems to be of great success.
