The company’s board, after extensive negotiations to reinstate Sam Altman as OpenAI CEO following his unexpected dismissal, ultimately opted for a different approach and appointed Emmett Shear, the former CEO of Twitch, as the interim CEO. As per The Information, Altman will not be resuming his role as the CEO of OpenAI.

Ilya Sutskever, co-founder and board director of OpenAI, announced that Shear will be the new interim CEO, replacing Mira Murati. Murati, who was publicly aligned with Altman, was dismissed shortly after inviting him to meet with OpenAI executives at the company’s San Francisco headquarters on Sunday.
Shear, who co-founded Twitch and Justin.tv, previously served as Twitch’s CEO until March of this year. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Yale University, which he earned in 2005.
In June 2011, Shear became a part-time partner at Y Combinator, providing guidance to the startups in every batch. He was recognized in Forbes Magazine’s 30 Under 30 list in 2012.

In 2005, Shear and Justin Kan introduced Kiko Calendar, an online calendar application based on Ajax technology. Due to various obstacles, including competition from Google Calendar, they decided to sell the company on eBay.
The appointment of Shear seems to signal the end of Altman’s departure, following his dismissal on Friday due to the board’s dissatisfaction with his lack of transparency in communication.
