Do you know that feeling when you have a friend oversharing every detail about their life, even without you asking about it? On some occasions, you are okay to hear about their troubles, giving them a shoulder to cry on. But, other times, you are forced to draw a boundary for the sake of your mental well-being.

While you can politely tell your friend to give you space, the same can’t be applied to celebrities. Yes, we want to know more about them and their families, but sometimes, when they go to a shared bed, it is impossible to stop. Case in point—Jada Pinkett Smith.
In the past week, we have learned so much about the actor, producer, author, metal band singer, and Red Table Talk host than we would like to.

Some examples include their separation in 2016, the lack of a prenup, and her ‘magical connection’ that led her to about her pregnancy, moments after her son Jaden was conceived.

She also addressed her past, admitting to selling drugs to a teenage person. Other instances include her bond with Tupac Shakur, saying that he was her soulmate and that they had a life together a previous time. She claimed Shakur had alopecia, and even called herself an “urban nun”. The latter means she spends time reading the Bible, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Quran daily. There were also her claims ayahuasca saved her life while she had suicidal thoughts.

These revelations are suddenly making headlines because the star is promoting her new memoir, Worthy. Naturally, she has to market her work, which includes excerpts, interviews and more.
However, the reception to her past has not been the best. For instance, people are questioning why they have to know so much about her life. Certain parts, such as Tupac’s story felt like TMI. Why would anyone speak about their former flame in this manner? Especially when they have a husband like Will, who would put his career on the line for his wife.

But there is a larger story here. Will and Jada are a few Black power couples, whom the world admires, much like Barack and Michelle Obama and Beyonce and Jay-Z. These power couples have been, more or less, defined how we look at love. Remember how the world applauded when they saw Will and Jada before the 2022 slap? Yes, with awe. Just like the world appreciated Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt before their divorce.

But what happens when the perfect couple starts showing its imperfection? When the dirty laundry is out? Well, for starters, the shiny surface is matte. And you can no longer see yourself in such a position. By that, I mean celebs and lifestyle are aspirational. And when you see cracks in such a facade, it always breaks your reverie.

But, this is not all. Fans also begin to choose their favourites, which gradually leads to dislike for the other partner. In this case, Jada is on the wrong end of the stick. She decided to disperse this info has not been sitting well with her children, or the world. It could be because she is a woman to a legendary star, but it could also be because that legendary star preferred to keep his life a private matter for years. Yet, we have someone like Jada who showed a middle finger to this and went ahead with the book (Will is on her side after reading Worthy). Moreover, Jada continually tries to talk about Tupac and having intimate encounters with her friend’s son, which enraged a lot of people.

One can also blame the fatigue that has sent in audiences now who do not genuinely care about such matters. So many people have been getting divorced or splitting up. There is also a rabbit hole that fans are forced to dive into with each excerpt release, which is unsettling.
In the end, the only person who is being blamed is Jada for starting this bender. Now that Will and Jada a reportedly planning to work on a book together, the internet is not having it. It’s a stark reminder of how an excess of something, especially in the digital age, can rapidly strip away its initial allure. And, the only way to navigate through this on social media is to consciously tune her out. If not, there is always a way to block her.
