Former U.S. president Donald Trump’s recent social media post has stirred up a storm of online backlash as he attempts to court pop icon Taylor Swift’s support for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections. Taking to Truth Social on Sunday, just ahead of Super Bowl LVIII, Trump implored Swift not to endorse his political rival, Joe Biden, citing his role in passing the Music Modernization Act (MMA) during his presidency in 2018.

In the controversial post, Trump touted his involvement in the MMA, which aimed to reform how songwriters and music publishers are compensated for their work. Trump went on to claim that Biden had not contributed anything meaningful to Swift’s career and insinuated that supporting Biden would be a disloyalty to him.

Trump’s mention of Swift’s boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, further fueled the online frenzy, with the former president highlighting Kelce’s liberal views despite expressing his admiration for the footballer.

The post quickly went viral, triggering a flood of sarcastic remarks and humorous comments from netizens who criticized Trump’s attempt to enlist Swift’s support as a thinly veiled ploy for attention. Some commentators pointed out that Swift was already financially successful before the enactment of the MMA, undermining Trump’s assertion of his pivotal role in her career.

As the digital discourse unfolded, social media users rallied to Swift’s defense, emphasizing her autonomy in political matters and dismissing Trump’s overture as a desperate bid for relevance.

Despite Swift’s previous endorsement of Biden in the 2020 elections, she has remained silent on her political stance for the upcoming 2024 elections, leaving her fans and political observers guessing about her potential involvement.
