18-year-old Iam Tongi was topped the winner within the American Idol music competitors after beating out the opposite two finalists, Megan Danielle and Colin Stough. Tongi, a highschool senior initially from Hawai’i, sang “I will Be Seeing You” for the stay finale, in honor of his dad Rodney who handed away.

“My dad, he wasn’t an ideal dude,” Iam informed the Kent Reporter. “He wasn’t like a saint, or no matter. However he was the most effective father that I do know. And I need everybody to know that he is a tricky man. He at all times informed me the reality, (and) he at all times liked me. And I at all times liked him too.”
The primary non-country winner in three years, Tongi gained the $250,000 prize and a recording contract with Hollywood Data/19 Recordings. Tongi can be the primary Hawaiian-born Pacific Islander to win Idol.
