The English voice cast for Studio Ghibli’s highly anticipated film, The Boy and the Heron, has been officially unveiled, and it’s a lineup filled with top-tier talent. This animated movie, previously hinted to be the last project of renowned animator Hayao Miyazaki, boasts a star-studded ensemble, including Christian Bale, Florence Pugh, Mark Hamill, and more.

The complete cast includes:

  • Christian Bale as Shoichi Maki
  • Dave Bautista as The Parakeet King
  • Gemma Chan as Natsuko
  • Willem Dafoe as Noble Pelican
  • Karen Fukuhara as Lady Himi
  • Mark Hamill as Granduncle
  • Robert Pattinson as The Gray Heron
  • Florence Pugh as Kiriko

Christian Bale takes the lead role, portraying Shoichi Maki, who plays the father of young Mahito Maki.

Many of the cast members are no strangers to voice acting, with Christian Bale having previously voiced Howl in Howl’s Moving Castle, Florence Pugh starring in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and Mark Hamill acclaimed for his iconic portrayal of the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series and various other projects.

Despite earlier claims that The Boy and the Heron would mark Miyazaki’s retirement from filmmaking, it has now come to light that the revered animator is already working on his next cinematic endeavor. While it may not be his final project, this film promises to be another captivating addition to the Studio Ghibli collection. The film is scheduled for release in theaters on December 8.
