Apple has officially acknowledged that it is currently looking into a problem that is impacting several Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 models. This information was shared through an internal memo with Apple’s Authorized service providers.

The memo, which was obtained by MacRumors, states that “Certain customers may encounter instances where their Apple Watch Series 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2 is registering unintended touches on the screen.”

Some Apple Watch models may exhibit unexpected behavior without any user interaction, which can be problematic. This could manifest as unintended phone calls, apps opening or closing without any prompts, or difficulties in entering the device passcode.

Apple has outlined in an internal memorandum that the issue could lead to the screens of the affected watches behaving unpredictably or displaying other unexpected actions. The extent of the problem’s prevalence is currently unknown, and it remains uncertain whether it is a result of a hardware malfunction or a software glitch.

The company, nonetheless, advises users to verify that their Apple Watch is operating on the most up-to-date watchOS version, suggesting the potential for a software solution. Apple has not provided any specific timeframe for resolving the matter or addressed the possibility of faulty hardware causing the problem.

At present, Apple has allegedly instructed technicians at Authorized Service Providers to refrain from repairing impacted devices until the investigation is concluded.

A potential workaround proposed for individuals experiencing the problem is to perform a force restart on their Apple Watch. This can be accomplished by simultaneously pressing and holding the Digital Crown and side button for a minimum of 10 seconds, or until the Apple logo appears.

Given Apple’s awareness of this issue, it is reasonable to anticipate a forthcoming update to rectify it in the near future.
