Apple is currently in the process of developing a foldable device, which is rumored to be a smartphone featuring a sizable screen. If these rumors hold true, this device could mark Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone or tablet market. The report also speculates that the launch of the Apple foldable may occur sometime between 2026 and 2027.

The Apple foldable smartphone, rumored to be in development, is said to potentially replace the iPad Mini. The iPad Mini, which received an update in 2021, boasts an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina IPS LCD screen. Powered by the A15 Bionic chipset, the 2021 iPad Mini is available in storage options of 64GB and 256GB, and comes in Pink, Purple, Starlight, and Space Grey colors.

According to a previous report, Apple is working on enhancing the iPad Mini by equipping it with an OLED display. Additionally, the upcoming model is expected to have a larger screen compared to the current version.

The rumored iPad Mini, anticipated to launch in 2026, may feature an 8.7-inch display, which is 0.4 inches bigger than the current iPad model. Despite the increase in size, it is still expected to maintain its status as the smallest iPad.

According to the latest Global Foldable Smartphone Tracker and Forecast by Counterpoint Research, it is projected that global shipments of foldable smartphones will exceed 100 million by 2027. The report highlights that Samsung and Apple are expected to dominate the market, accounting for the largest market share.

Counter Point’s Research Director, Tom Kang, emphasized the significance of this segment for brands aiming to maintain their leadership in innovation and establish a strong presence in the premium market.

Kang further noted that while foldable smartphones are currently considered niche, Samsung and Chinese original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have been actively pursuing this market, particularly in their respective home markets. China, in particular, emerged as the largest market for foldable smartphones globally last year. Kang emphasized the importance of succeeding in the Chinese market for any brand aspiring to thrive in the foldable smartphone industry.
