After the massive success of ‘Game of Thrones’, HBO decided to expand on the universe with more projects. While ‘House of the Dragon’ became another hit, getting greenlit for season two, ‘Blood Moon’, another series set on the White Walkers, was scrapped. And now, reports of a third spin-off at the studio are in the works: Aegon’s conquest. The reports claim the show will be written by Mattson Tomlin, the writer of The Batman Part II.

As per Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon lore, Aegon was the predecessor to the Targaryens and someone responsible for uniting Westeros. But there is more to it.

The Targaryen bloodline moved to Dragonstone just before (12 years) the fall of Old Valyria (due to a vision someone had in the family). The Targaryens were not always interested in Westeros; to them, it was an island with a city. But the story begins after Aegon, with his dragon, Black Dread, Balerion, went to battle for Volantis, who were in battle against Essos. After his victory, thanks to his sister’s wives, Visenya (whom he married out of duty) and Rhaenys (out of love); Aegon decided to turn to Westeros.

While it is unclear whether Aegon always wanted to conquer Westeros, his intentions changed during the episode with the last Storm King, Argilac Durrandon. The lore notes that Argilac wanted to protect his land against Harren Hoare, the King of the Isles and the Rivers. So, the best course of action for him was to marry his only daughter, Argella, to Aegon. While Aegon was already married, he decided his best friend (and alleged bastard brother), Orys Baratheon, would be a better fit. When the news reached Argillac the Arrogant, he cut the hands of the convoy delivering the message. Aegon, who certainly was displeased, spoke to his sister’s wives about the conquest of the Seven Kingdoms. They sent ravens to every ruler to bend the knee or to go to battle. Dorne’s princess chose to fight with the Storm King, and so did the Queen Regent of the Vale.

And so, with 1,600 men, Aegon and his sister-wives arrived at the mouth of the Blackwater Rush, later known as the King’s Landing. It is also where Aegon created a fort with the help of small Valyrian houses Velaryon, Celtigar, and Massey. With time, some houses bent their knee, in fear of the dragons. However, Aegon had to battle Harren Hoare, while Orys and Rhaenys took over the Stormlands. Moreover, after Argilac’s death, his daughter married Orys, forming House Baratheon. Similarly, Crownlands, Vale, Gardener, Lannister, and Oakheart eventually surrendered or died fighting. Torrhen Stark of the North earned the title of the King who Knelt, as he chose to surrender instead of fighting Aegon, Visenya, and Rhaenys.

Now, the only Kingdom that did not bend was Dorne. Aegon, now the king of the six empires, sent Rhaenys to Dorne. Every other place was abandoned except Sunspear. Princess Meria Martell met Rhaenys and told her Dorne would remain unbowed, unbent, and unbroken. Dorne neither fought nor surrendered, giving Aegon no other option but to leave the Kingdom alone for the time being.

Due to his conquest, Aegon was called the Conqueror, having the opportunity to rule Westeros peacefully until his death. As for the Iron Throne, he used Balerion’s flames to melt his enemies’ swords into his throne. During his life, he adapted to the Faith of the Seven, went to war with Dorne on multiple occasions, and acquired the Iron Islands. The title of the King of the Seven Kingdoms came due to his victory at the Iron Islands.
