Dubai’s Guru Nanak Durbar Gurdwara will reportedly serve 5,000 free meals in solidarity with the inauguration of the much-awaited Abu Dhabi BAPS Hindu Mandir (temple).

According to Khaleej Times, Dubai’s Gurdwara will serve “langar” on the inauguration day of the Middle East’s first traditional Hindu stone temple in Abu Dhabi to show the remarkable interfaith solidarity among the expat community of the United Arab Emirates.

Abu Dhabi’s iconic BAPS Hindu Mandir which will be inaugurated this week on February 14, 2024, will witness solidarity by Guru Nanak Durbar Gurdwara in Dubai.

The management of the Gurdwara, a place of assembly and worship for Sikhs will serve 5,000 meals in a “langar” which is a community service that offers free food to individuals irrespective of their nationality or religion.

The free meals will be offered in the presence of the spiritual guru of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj as well as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be inaugurating BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

The chairman of the Gurudwara committee, Surender Singh Kandhari also noted that serving “langar” is a tradition in all gurudwaras. “No one goes hungry,” he said. “We made this offer to Swami Brahmaviharidas, head of the BAPS Hindu Mandir project, and he readily accepted.”

Surender Singh Kandhari continued, “The gesture is not only our way of welcoming the new addition into our multi-faith community but also our way of thanking the UAE authorities for their largesse, forward-thinking approach to all religions, and commitment to harmony and tolerance.”

Meanwhile, the 12-day “Festival of Harmony” BAPS Hindu Mandir inauguration kicked off with sacred ceremonies. The event will be marked with different themes like harmony, civilization, peace, values, gratitude, and more until February 21, 2024.
